Deadline for submissions – Monday, February 11, 2018

New Community ArtSpace is seeking storytellers and visual artists interested in participating in a temporary exhibition opening March 2019.  This year’s theme will focus on rugs.  The rug symbolizes the roots of our values and how they begin to develop.  Visual artists are welcome to submit “rug like” works made of various medium.  Storytellers are welcome to submit stories of rugs that come from memory and/or imagination.  Stories will be shared at the seat of a large rug created by the ArtSpace fiber arts class.

The ArtSpace exhibition Program showcases the talent of the Shaw neighborhood and greater Washington DC area throughout the year.  The artwork addresses relevant issues, showcasing new talent, bringing art directly into the neighborhood and increasing exposure of both established and emerging artists.  

Acceptable mediums include but are not limited to: prints, drawings, mixed media, paintings, photographs, sculpture, ceramics, video, poetry, short stories, and multimedia work. The competition is not restricted to works made at ArtSpace. Open to all ages and artistic abilities.

ArtSpace will select 20 works for the exhibit.  The selected work(s) should be ready to display and present.

Sunday, March 3, 2019            Exhibition opening reception at 1pm and storytelling at 2pm
